Dunno if it's true, but it's certainly been a long-standing rumour. Gotta try it one of these days. I've got the album; just need the movie.

Agreed and I have both...

*plans an evening in*

I have the album (one of the first three CDs I bought, back when CDs were novel and, er, shiny) but I don't have the movie.

Anyone checked the playing time for them both to see whether they match?

There's a specific point in the film where you are supposed to chuck the CD in and then it all works in fluid motion.

Apparently.

Aha. Of course, I could just hit google or wikipedia, but why spoil a good reason to ask questions? ;-)

So long as you don't expect me to have the answers! ;)

I tried this years ago, and it really didn't work.

The Wall and Fantasia, on the other hand, is quite stunning...

God, I hope not.

Not really
For one thing they're two different running times. If you put the DVD in and hit play, then hit play on the CD just as the MGM lion roars for the second time, you get some neat coincidences for the first hour or so of the movie. Then the CD's finished and you've got the movie running and your stereo on the wrong settings so you can't hear anything.

I suspect it works better if you're on some sort of mind-altering substance and have a reasonable expectation of being asleep by the time the CD's finished.

Re: Not really
Unless, as has now been suggested, you play the CD twice...

.... AND make sure you're on some sort of mind-altering substance.

Re: Not really
But if you do it twice, surely you lose the neat coincidences. Like the scene where the scarecrow is dancing about on the grass, and the lyric on the album says "the lunatic is on the grass". Surely that doesn't happen the second time as well?

Re: Not really
Well, I think someone needs to test that out...

Enquiring minds want to know!

OK, I'll do it over the weekend.

Some TV channel that was available to me actually played DSoM on the SAP audio channel when showing OZ...and I didn't find out about it until after it was over with...

I've heard there's a way to play the album TWICE with the movie (because the movie's long enough) but I have yet to try it.

I have Oz on Laserdisc (!) and DSoM on CD...

I believe that makes you the natural front-runner to try this thing out ...
