Aust SpecFic Carnival #1: Announcements

First, the announcements:

glendalarke lj feed here, yay! Thanks to callistra for pointing the way.

Nebula shortlist is announced & Margo Lanagan gets onboard: Margo also makes a bunch of other lists, but I couldn't keep up. Instead, I refer you here: (via margolanagan).

Winners of the Aurealis Awards are announced:

(The Tin Ducks winners are also announced, but a cursory search reveals all reference to them has been deleted from the Swancon website.)

Meanwhile, benpayne gets himself declared King o'the World or similar (aka Aurealis Awards Director), & puts out a call for minions (aka Aurealis Awards judges):

Also commences at once to use his powers for evil instead of good, with arguably the month's funniest post: (I would argue that it *is*, the rest of you can argue amongst yourselves).

punkrocker1991 finally admits what we all knew: he is an attractive figurehead. Keeps his pretty head busy with the upcoming Simon Brown antho, Troy:

And then awards himself the Golden Ditmar, an award he created himself in order to give the King o'the World a run for his money in the Month's Funniest Post stakes. Russell misses out because he can largely spell.

Chris Barnes contents himself with the much more reasonable title Dark Lord of Magic Casements at the NSW Writers' Centre, & gives us a taste of the line up:

The Shadow Plays fantasy antho announces its lineup:

Cosmos Magazine puts its fiction online:

And the Outcast antho edges closer:

Finally, ASiF quietly usurps all attempts at world domination by smartly getting itself a damn good forum: Under the knife go Angela Challis & Tansy Rayner Roberts.

Next up: blog bitch fights & back slaps.

In particular, I am missing: news & reviews. Remember to send your inclusions to philologa at

With many thanks to gillpolack for this section in particular.

Yay! I always wanted to be a Dark Lord, and now I are one.

(You know, these SpecFic Carnivals are a great idea. There really is a lot stuff going on, isn't there.)

Is smugness permitted at this point? (I need smugness after a leaf blower outside my window beat my alarm clock by a full two hous - I am significantly sleepdeprived)
Mar. 13th, 2006 11:01 pm (UTC)
Smugness is hereby authorised. :)

Hee, I've started a trend of multi-part Carnivals...

Do you suspect that by the end of the year we'll be working on book length ones??

Great job, Deb. I look forward to reading the rest.

Do I hear the sound of a second go at the carnival? I need bloggers for post-July. Pick a month, any month.
Mar. 13th, 2006 10:39 pm (UTC)
Go on, then. :) August will do.
Mar. 13th, 2006 10:55 pm (UTC)
:). You are doing August :). Thank you. Now I only need 4 more volunteers and we are fine till the end of the year.
